On Wednesday, June 1, at least one tornado touched down in the city of Springfield and surrounding communities. The funnel passed just to the south of Springfield Armory National Historic Site, and the park sustained no damage.
Due to the ongoing cleanup and traffic issues throughout the city and along the main entrance route to the park up State Street, Springfield Armory NHS will be closed until Monday, June 6, when the park will resume normal operations at 9am. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope these actions will assist the city and state in their cleanup efforts.
We thank everyone who has inquired about the park, and appreciate all offers for assistance.
Springfield Armory National Historic Site wishes to express our condolences to all the families of those killed or injured through this tragedy, in addition to our sincerest sympathy to all our affected neighbors and surrounding communities.
