Temporary Backcountry Road and Campsite Closures

As part of an upcoming rock crushing and surfacing project in Big Bend National Park, a few backcountry roads will be closed in the near future. The roads listed below will be closed starting June 13th. The closures are expected to last at least through July 8, 2011.

Maverick Road: The first five miles of the northern section of the road will be closed. The Rattlesnake Mountain campsite will not be accessible during the closure. Access will be possible from the southern end of the road up to the closure.

Glenn Springs Road

: Will be closed from the north end at Route 12 (the road from Panther Junction to Rio Grande Village) up to the Pine Canyon junction. The Nugent Mountain campsites will not be accessible during the closure. Visitors can access

Glenn Springs Road

from the south end up to the Pine Canyon junction.

Pine Canyon Road

: This road will be closed during the project. The backcountry campsites Pine Canyon #1-5 will not be accessible during the closure.

The roads and campsites will be re-opened as soon as the work is completed.
