Fort to Host Summer Family Fun Encampment

On the weekend of July 9th and 10th, Fort Stanwix National Monument will host a Summer Family Fun Encampment. This unique overnight event will provide adults and their children the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, learn about family life on the frontier, and camp at Fort Stanwix. Due to available space, the program is limited to 100 people. Reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis. If less than 50 people make reservations the program will be cancelled. Please call Fort Stanwix National Monument at (315) 338-7730 or visit the Marinus Willett Center at the intersection of James and Dominick Streets by Monday, July 3rd to make your reservation to participate in this event. Check-in on event night begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. Dismissal after the overnight begins at 9 a.m. the following day.

The cost for the encampment is $15.00 per person. The catered dinner and breakfast will be provided by The Savoy restaurant. The dinner includes stew, bread and non-carbonated soft drinks, and in the morning participants will enjoy a Continental breakfast. If you wish to supplement these meals with something more, you will need to provide this yourself. Payment can be sent or made in person to the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce, 139 West Dominick Street, Rome, NY 13440-5809; phone (315)337-1700.

Participants who wish to spend the night will be sleeping in a rustic setting on straw beds and in areas with dirt floors. People with allergies or asthma are strongly encouraged to call the park for more information about living quarters for the weekend. Additionally, please bring your sleeping bags and pillows, a flashlight, and a blanket to lie over the straw beds. Air mattresses are not recommended.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted.
