Hiker Suffers Fatal Fall on the Grinnell Glacier Trail

WEST GLACIER, MT. - An interpretive park ranger leading a hike on the Grinnell Glacier Trail received a report at approximately 11:50 a.m. of a male hiker who had taken a 50-100 foot slide on a steep snow field on the Grinnell Glacier Trail. Initial reports indicate that the hiker needed medical assistance and suffered head injuries.

National Park Service Rangers, Kalispell Regional Medical Center’s (KMRC) ALERT helicopter and Minuteman Aviation responded to the incident in the Many Glacier Valley.

Medical personnel pronounced the hiker deceased at approximately 1:53 p.m. The Glacier County Coroner’s Office is establishing the cause of death.

Identification of the individual will not be released until the family of the individual can be notified.
