Special Event August 6 & 7, 2011
Learn more about the rich and diverse history of Frederick, Maryland. Listen as local author John W. Schildt talks about the Indians, British Grenadiers and Civil War soldiers behind the drum beats heard around the Frederick. Visit with archeologists at the slave village site and see what they are uncovering about the lives of the enslaved people who lived in the village.
Mr. Schildt grew up in Frederick County and has been a lifelong student of history. A graduate of Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, he has been a teacher, a pastor and a hospital chaplain. Schildt is the author of several books on Frederick history, including September Echoes, Drums Along the Monocacy and Frederick in the Civil War.

* 1:00 p.m. - Program by John Schildt. A book signing will follow the presentation.
Sunday, August 7
* 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Slave village site open
The August 6 program with John Schildt will take place at the visitor center. The slave village site is located across the road on the Best Farm.Monocacy National Battlefield Visitor Center is located on Maryland State Route 355, two miles south of Frederick, Maryland. All programs are free!
