WEST GLACIER, MT.-On Wednesday, Aug. 17, at approximately 11:50am a family was walking along McDonald Creek near Red Rock Point when one of the family members, a young son, fell in the creek. The mother tried to catch him but fell into the water too. Both floated down the creek for a short time.
Bystanders retrieved the child and the mother, but the mother was unconscious and not breathing. The bystanders performed CPR and rescue breathing on the mother and she regained consciousness. A doctor and two nurses, who happened to be in the area, arrived and helped treat the woman for hypothermia. Park rangers arrived and assessed her vitals, administered oxygen and prepared her for transport.
A.L.E.R.T. Air Ambulance transported the woman to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
The young son was reported to be in good condition with no injuries.
