Damage from Lightening Strike Repaired

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 19, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Park staff spent over 24 hours repairing damage from a significant lightening strike in the Homestead area of Everglades National Park. A complete phone and internet outage impacted some park operations. The main inconvenience to the public was an inability to contact the park by phone or email. The park is pleased to announce that both of these problems have been addressed.

The park remains open with visitor centers and trails open to the public.
