OVERTON, Nev. - The body of a 19-year-old Las Vegas man who is believed to have drowned was recovered at 4 p.m. by Las Vegas Metro Police Search and Rescue divers in about 12 feet of water. The National Park Service began searching for the man when he was reported missing by friends around 12:30 p.m. The man was swimming in the Echo Bay area of Lake Mead.
Park rangers and National Park Service boating volunteers searched the area by boat. Las Vegas Metro Police Search and Rescue dive team searched underwater.
The missing man's friends told park rangers that he was in ankle deep water when they last saw him. They say they turned and turned back and the man was gone. He wasn't wearing a life jacket.
Park rangers don't believe alcohol played a role in the apparent drowning.
The body has been turned over to the Clark County Coroner's Office who will determine the cause of death and make positive identification.
