Park Rangers continue search for Park Visitor

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 1, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Park Rangers continue search for park visitor, Jacob M Olivier today. Mr. Olivier has been described as a 23 year old white male, approximately 5"6", 120 lbs, with brown hair and eyes from Spring Texas.

The search began August 30 when rangers began looking for the driver of an unattended Isuzu truck with Texas license plates located at the trailhead of gate 8 at Pine Glades Lake in the Pine Island District of Everglades National Park. Rangers determined that the vehicle had been at the trailhead since August 24 and that Jacob Olivier is the operator/user of the vehicle owned by his father.

A preliminary search was conducted August 30 of roads and trails in the immediate area where the vehicle was located. A Miami-Dade Police Department helicopter assisted with the search Tuesday but had to leave the scene due to thunderstorms and intense rain in the search area. A more intensive search with ground (K-9 and trackers) and air resources was conducted Wednesday, August 31. The search will continue today, September 1.

As of today, Jacob has not been declared missing by his family. At this point it is difficult to tell whether Jacob Olivier is still in the park. Rangers are looking into leads and any tips received from the public.

Anyone who believes they may have seen Mr. Olivier while visiting the park the past week or have other information to his whereabouts please contact the park dispatch at 305-242-7740.
