Possible Hazardous Beach Conditions for Point Reyes National Seashore Over the Labor Day Holiday Weekend

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 2, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

The National Weather Service report for this weekend states that a long period of southerly swells resulting in hazardous conditions on many southerly facing beaches are expected to persist over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Southerly facing beaches along the Point Reyes coastline include Limantour, Drakes, Palomarin and the beaches below both Coast and Wildcat campgrounds.

The hazards may include a heightened risk of rip currents and sneaker waves which could wash unsuspecting beach goers into the ocean.

These conditions are forecast to continue through Saturday. Visitors to any coastal areas should use caution this weekend.
