Input Needed for Rocky Mountain National Park’s New Fire Management Plan

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 14, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Rocky Mountain National Park staff are preparing a new Fire Management Plan for the park. The current Fire Management Plan is currently based on a 1992 plan which underwent minor revisions in 2004. This new plan will more fully address the challenges the park now faces with the bark beetle epidemic, other forest health issues, and community wildland fire protection.

The Fire Management Plan Environmental Assessment is now available for public review and comment. You are invited to participate in one of the following community meetings to learn more about the plan and the two alternatives that are being evaluated:

Monday, Sept. 26, 7:00 p.m. Hondius Room at the Estes Park Library, 335 East Elkhorn Avenue

Tuesday, Sept. 27, 7:00 p.m. Grand Lake Fire Station, 201 West Portal Road If you are unable to attend one of these community meetings and you have internet access, the preferred method for reviewing the Fire Management Plan Environmental Assessment and submitting comments is to use the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website: www.parkplanning.nps.gov/romo
