(Corpus Christi, Texas)- Padre Island National Seashore will offer free visitor admission on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 for National Public Lands Day (NPLD). The day will provide a great opportunity for visitors to connect with the outdoors and to engage in healthy activities while learning more about stewardship of our national parks and other federal lands. The fee waiver does not apply to Bird Island Basin special use fees or to camp ground fees.
This year's NPLD coincides with the Texas General Land Office's (GLO) Adopt-a-Beach program. The Adopt-a-Beach Clean-up is a volunteer activity designed to encourage the public to preserve and protect Texas beaches. Registration will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and the beach clean-up will end at approximately 12:00 noon. All clean-up supplies will be supplied and a free hot-dog lunch will be provided to interested participants.
Visitors wishing to volunteer are encouraged to wear work clothes, sunscreen, and hats.For food planning purposes, anyone bringing a large group is encouraged to contact Adopt-A-Beach Coordinator William Botts at (361) 949-8068 to pre-register.
