Search for Missing Man in Lake Michigan

INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: The National Park Service, U.S. Coast Guard, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and several local agencies are searching Lake Michigan for a 31 year-old male in the waters along the eastern portion of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. today, a local resident noticed a small overturned raft and two people in the water approximately ½ mile east of the national lakeshore's Lakeview Picnic Area and about ¼ mile from shore. One of the two individuals, a female, managed to swim to shore. A 31-year old male, who was rafting with the female, is missing.

A Coast Guard helicopter, several boats, and dive teams are involved in the search. In addition to the National Park Service, U.S. Coast Guard, and Department of Natural Resources others assisting in the search include crews from the City of Portage, Burns Harbor, Porter, Beverly Shores, Ogden Dunes, Chesterton, and Washington Township.
