Draft Commercial Services Plan and Environmental Assessment released

Haleakalā National Park has released the Draft Commercial Services Plan and Environmental Assessment for review and comments. The purpose of this plan is to provide directions for the management of commercial services in nonwilderness areas of the park over the next 10 to 15 years. The plan describes several alternatives for how the park's commercial services could be managed to achieve overall park goals and meet desired resource conditions and high quality visitor experiences.

The document may be found at www.nps.gov/hale, the Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website www.pepc.nps.gov, and the public libraries at Hāna, Makawao, and Kahului, Maui, Hawaii. The public review period for this document is 60 days. Comments must be received by Aug. 31, 2012.

There are a variety of ways to make comments. The most efficient is to use the internet. Internet comments can be submitted at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/hale. Written comments may also be submitted via US mail to:

Comments may also be submitted at public meetings which will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM at the following locations: Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani on August 15th, Helene Hall in Hāna on August 16th, and the Kīpahulu Visitor Center in Haleakalā National Park on August 17th, 2012.
