Movies Under The Stars Shows “Marooned” With Gregory Peck

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 1, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Johnson City, TX: Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park invites to the public to a free showing of the 1969 movie, Marooned, on Saturday, July 14, at 8:30 p.m., at the LBJ Ranch. Staring Gregory Peck, the film was released less than four months after the Apollo 11 moon landing and was tied to the public fascination with the event.

The film received an Academy Award for Visual Effects and was based on the 1964 novel of the same name by Martin Caidin.

The movie will be projected onto an 18 by 25 foot outdoor screen that includes a professional sound system. Everyone should bring their own choice of seating. Picnicking before and during the movie is permitted.

The public can drive on to the LBJ Ranch beginning at 7:00 p.m. Entry to the LBJ Ranch is conveniently located off of Hwy. 290 onto Ranch Road 1, then Park Road 49. Free parking is available on the taxiway adjacent to the movie site.

President and Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson often invited friends and neighbors to attend movie showings in their airplane hangar, which also served as a location for press conferences and family gatherings. The movie will be shown in the area adjacent to the historic hangar.
