Due to excessive heat the living history encampment and artillery demonstrations scheduled for Sunday, July 8 have been CANCELLED!
The 148th anniversary of the "Battle That Saved Washington" will be commemorated on July 7-8, 2012.All events are free.
Saturday, July 7:
Military living history encampment at the historic Gambrill Mill will feature artillery and infantry demonstrations as well as commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
* Artillery Demonstrations: Saturday - 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8:
Beat the heat by viewing a special exhibit and visiting with local authors at the park visitor center.
* Temporary exhibit featuring artifacts from the 14th New Jersey Volunteers, nicknamed "Monocacy Regiment," because they protected the Monocacy Junction for 9 months during the war, then returned to the area to fight in the Battle of Monocacy.
* Author signings at the visitor center 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. include:
Saturday and Sunday- Ranger Brett Spaulding - Last Chance For Victory, Jubal Early's 1864 Maryland Invasion.
Sunday - Gail Stephens - Shadow of Shiloh - Major General Lew Wallace in the Civil War.
The park visitor center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.Trails are open until dusk.
