Logan Pass Accessible from East Side

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 10, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Visitors to Glacier National Park may access Logan Pass via the Going-to-the-Sun Road from St. Mary on the east side of the park through Sunday, Oct. 14, as weather conditions allow. Visitors may encounter winter conditions, including snow and patches of ice on the road at higher elevations and are encouraged to drive with care.

Last week more than 14 inches of snow fell at the Logan Pass Visitor Center Parking Lot and icy conditions were reported on Going-to-the-Sun Road. Due to unsafe winter driving conditions, the road was temporarily gated at Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east side of the park.

The west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road is open to Avalanche Creek and the remainder of the road to Logan Pass is closed to vehicles for accelerated rehabilitation work on the road.

For more information contact the park at 888-7800 or visit www.nps.gov/GLAC.
