BARSTOW, CALIF. -The National Park Service (NPS) has extended the deadline for submitting a proposal to operate a lunch-counter food and beverage service at the Kelso Depot Visitor Center, Mojave National Preserve. The new deadline is Jan. 16, 2013.

Kelso Depot Visitor Center is located on Kelbaker Road, 35 miles south of Interstate 15 at Baker, and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The term of the new concession contract will be from five to ten years.

Originally built as a Union Pacific train station, the Kelso Depot was renovated to serve as Mojave National Preserve's Visitor Center. The 1920s-era lunch counter at the Depot was rebuilt as part of the renovation project. The lunch counter has been in operation since the summer of 2008 and is popular with travelers driving between the Los Angeles metropolitan area and Las Vegas.

Prospectus packages containing all the information needed to prepare a proposal are available at https://www.nps.gov/commercialservices/prospectuses.htm
