The first event is the Second Annual Science & History Symposium on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 from 8 am till 4:30 pm. Researchers, students and community members are welcome to attend and learn more about the exciting research projects occurring in the preserve. This year will feature a luncheon with University of North Florida President and former Jacksonville Mayor John Delaney as Keynote speaker. A variety of presentation and poster topics are offered including archaeological research, natural science inventory and monitoring and conservation psychology.
Online registration for the Symposium is offered until Jan. 21, 2013. Early Bird Registration ($35 per person) closes on Jan. 1, 2013. After that date regular registration is offered online for $40 per person. Students are welcome to attend for a reduced registration rate of $10 per person. Onsite registration will be offered by cash or check only. The second event is the First Annual Timucuan Adventure Day on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013. "This inaugural event is designed to inspire children and the entire community to get involved in protecting Jacksonville's National Treasure by exploring the unique and diverse resources within the Timucuan Preserve", explains Superintendent Barbara Goodman. "It's a place where natural and cultural resources connect. Our partnerships with the Florida Park Service and Timucuan Trail Parks Foundation provide us the opportunity to involve the public in exciting science discovery activities." The event featuring hands on activities for all ages is free and open to the public.
The Timucuan Adventure Day activities begin at 10:00 am and run until 3:00 pm on Saturday.

11:00 am - Learn about Nature Photography with photographer Jen Morgan
12:00 pm - Investigate "Timucuan Technology" with the Florida Public Archaeology Network
1:00 pm - Explore nature hike with a park ranger
2:00 pm - Living History program at Kingsley Plantation
Other activities offered throughout the day include historic weapons demonstrations, "Crossbow for Kids", a touch tank of preserve water critters and many others from area environmental organizations. Kayak Amelia will offer kayak safety training and kayaking demonstrations. EcoMotion Tours will provide Segway demonstrations. There will also be a silent auction by Timucuan Trails Parks Foundation for a Segway tour for two and other items with proceeds supporting preservation efforts. Pack a picnic, blanket and water and come experience the salt marshes, miles of trails, historic sites and great outdoors!
