Long ago, what did people of different cultures do to stave off boredom during the long winter months? Come to Fort Stanwix National Monument's Backyard Ranger Program on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 am to 11:30 am and 1:30 pm to 3 pm to learn from special guest Ron Patterson of the Shako:wi Cultural Center about the Haudenosaunee game of snow snake and other traditional winter games. Act as a History Detective and discover clues in the park about other cultures that lived in Central NY during the American Revolution. While hunting for history, you'll discover the story of the lyrics to some songs you know, play winter games, and make a toy of your own!
You can join the Backyard Rangers every third Saturday of the month, there is no cost, and no reservations are necessary. The next Backyard Rangers will meet on Feb. 16, 2013. For more information about this and other programs, please call 315-338-7730 and ask to speak to a ranger.
