Devils Tower National Monument reopens Friday morning following a brief closure after a prescribed burn escaped containment late Wednesday afternoon. The Belle Fourche Fire was 100% contained at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9. Firefighters continue to strengthen control lines, mop-up hot spots, and remove hazardous trees to ensure public safety.
"The entrance road, Tower Trail, Belle Fourche Campground, picnic area, and visitor center will open Friday morning at 9 o'clock", said Reed Robinson, Monument Superintendent. "The visitor center complex will be open but without potable water due to a utility system failure during the fire. All climbing routes on the tower will be open. All other facilities and trail remain closed as firefighters continued mop-up."
