The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 15, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

Hit the trail! Fort Union National Monument, in collaboration with the Santa Fe National Historic Trail and the Piojo Ranch, will be offering a rare opportunity for a guided hike along the Santa Fe Trail in eastern New Mexico on June 1, 2013. Imagine the sounds of hooves and wagons thundering along the trail while discovering wagon ruts hundreds of years old. Park Rangers and archaeologists will lead this two-mile, moderate hike. This hike will be held within the Piojo Ranch and will offer an opportunity to experience the trail in a pristine, undisturbed area. Come and learn about the rich and diverse local histories associated with the Santa Fe Trail and Fort Union. Meet at the Fort Union NM visitor center at 10am and then caravan out to the ranch. Bring closed-toe shoes, hat, water, sunscreen and a sack lunch. Call us to reserve a spot on the tour! There are no fees for this event.
