INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: The National Park Service, Dunes Learning Center and the Great Lakes Research and Education Center are jointly offering a workshop on Threatened and Endangered Species on Saturday, June 22, 2013. Educators, both formal and non-formal, are invited to attend this interactive training which runs from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and will be held at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education in Gary.
The workshop is designed for educators working with students in all grades and will feature an interactive hike on the newly extended Miller Woods Trail through some of the rare and endangered habitats found in this region. Participants will learn about research and restoration on Karner blue butterflies, Pitcher’s Thistle, Piping Plovers, and other rare and interesting species found in our area.
There is a $35 fee paid to the Dunes Learning Center, and lunch is provided. Indiana teachers can receive Professional Growth Points and Illinois Teachers can receive CPDUs for attending the workshop.
