Desert Tortoise Talk Aug. 9
Head out to the Boulder Beach Campground at Lake Mead National Recreation Area at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 to learn about the Desert Tortoise. The evening program will focus on the tortoise as a threatened species, explaining how it has adapted to the desert, why it is threatened and what people can do to help protect it.
Lake Mead Institute Discovery Series ‘An Evening with the Stars’ Aug. 10
Lake Mead Institute is hosting a stargazing party at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Water Safety Center near Boulder Beach. Learn about the summer constellations and view them firsthand through a telescope with the guidance of Jon Zander, a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory solar system ambassador. Zander worked with the Mars Missions and is volunteering for the Juno Mission.
The Lake Mead Institute is an alliance of park partners dedicated to providing education, service and scientific opportunities that further the understanding and stewardship of the park. The Discovery Series, which began in June, is a series of educational and informational talks given by field experts.
