Explore an intimate view of John Muir and celebrate National Public Lands Day during a special presentation by Robert Hanna, John Muir’s great-great-grandson, at the John Muir National Historic Site (NHS) on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at 6 PM. Hanna will present “Growing Up Muir" inside Muir’s historic Victorian home as part of a National Park Service speaker series celebrating John Muir’s modern legacy.
Hanna’s presentation offers a personal view of Muir from the perspective of his family. Hanna will describe and uncover the many sides of Muir through family stories and never before seen photographs and writings. Seating is limited, and reservations are required. Hanna has spent his entire life in and around the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He carries on his family's legacy by working to protect and preserve parks and places of natural beauty. National Public Lands Day celebrates America’s public lands - which John Muir fought to protect - with volunteer service projects nationwide.
Created in 1964, John Muir NHS preserves the home, landscapes, and gravesite of conservationist and national park advocate John Muir. Mt. Wanda preserves 326 acres of grasslands and oak woodlands that were part of the original Muir/Strentzel ranch in the Alhambra Valley more than a century ago.
