Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, in partnership with the Spruce Creek Trails Association, will be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for the official opening of the Proctor Ridge Trail horse trail on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 28. The ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. EDT at the Proctor Ridge Trail entry. After the ceremony, horseback riders and hikers are encouraged to try out the newly updated trail that will connect users to other trail options.
"We want to take this opportunity of celebrating National Public Lands Day to demonstrate our appreciation of all the volunteers who helped with this partnership over the past two years," said Niki Stephanie Nicholas, Superintendent. National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer event in which eight federal agencies, as well as other groups, partner together to maintain and protect public lands.
Visitors can access the trail entry point from Highway 297 in Fentress County. Turn onto Spruce Creek Drive and continue to Crockett Creek Drive; continue on to Proctor Ridge Trail. From that point there will be signs that will lead you to the beginning of Proctor Ridge Trail where the event will take place.
