Runs on Highway 120 West and 120 East Extended to the End of September
The Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) is extending transit service on Highway 120, west and east corridors, through Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.Previously, the runs from Tuolumne County, on Highway 120 West, were scheduled to end for the season on Sept. 15, 2013.The service from Mono County, on Highway 120 East, will continue to operate on weekends through Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013.
Both of these popular YARTS routes were temporarily interrupted in August due to the Rim Fire in and around Yosemite National Park.Portions of Highway 120, east and west, both inside and adjacent to the park, were closed due to the fire activity.As of Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, all of Highway 120 in and around the park reopened, thus allowing YARTS service to resume.
"We are thrilled to be able to resume and extend these YARTS runs until the end of the month," stated Dick Whittington, Transit Manager of YARTS."We are also grateful for the assistance from Yosemite National Park in helping us provide this expand services to the gateway communities."
YARTS has been providing transit service to Yosemite National Park along the Highway 140 and Highway 120 (east) corridors since 2000.This year marked the second year of YARTS service along the Highway 120 (west) corridor from Sonora.This run has proved to be very popular, with significantly increased ridership this year.
