CONSTRUCTION TO CLOSE LOST VALLEY TRAIL IN NOVEMBER

CONSTRUCTION TO CLOSE LOST VALLEY TRAIL IN NOVEMBER

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 12, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

Long-awaited construction is scheduled to take place next week on the popular Lost Valley hiking trail in Boxley Valley. Subject to heavy rains and a flash flood in 2011, this trail which is the most popular day use destination in Buffalo National River, will see the placement of trail aggregate on the lower section which is designed to meet American Barriers Act accessibility standards. The contractor, Rose Construction out of Tennessee, will stage equipment Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 and begin work the next day. The trail will be closed through the following Monday, Nov. 18, weather permitting. This project was originally scheduled to take place in early October but was delayed by the partial government shutdown. The delay was actually good timing for visitors who came to view the outstanding fall colors. The trail still lacks a replacement bridge at the trailhead as the park continues to seek funding for its replacement.
