Monument Restoration at Asan Beach
A unique monument commemorating the amphibious assault of Guam in 1944 will receive a facelift this winter. War in the Pacific National Historical Park staff removed corroded plaques for cleaning and metals treatment from the U.S Landing Monument at Asan Beach. It is anticipated that the plaques will be restored and re-mounted by March 2014.
“This work is part of a larger effort to prepare the park for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Guam in July 2014," according to the park’s Cultural Resources Program Manager, James Oelke Farley.
