Guided Hike of Moccasin Bend's Blue Blazes Trail

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Jan. 16, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided hike of the Blue Blazes Trail on Moccasin Bend. The two mile, two hour hike will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Blues Blazes Trail parking area off Moccasin Bend Road, south of the Moccasin Bend Golf Course. "Special Event" signs will be posted along the road to help guide visitors.

Blue Blazes Trail has been a focal point for hikers since the late 1980s and has more stories than meets the regular hiker's eye. This hike, led by Park Historian Jim Ogden, will focus on the history of the trail and how it came into being. Participants will also learn more about the history of Moccasin Bend as a whole and how the Blue Blazes Trail can serve as an entry point to the Bend.

Comfortable, supportive, wet-weather footwear, clothing appropriate for environmental conditions and water are recommended for this moderate hike.
