SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING BOATERS
BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Officials have recovered an adult male and are searching for two others at Lake Mead National Recreation Area near Echo Bay.
Around 10 p.m. Feb. 20, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Interagency Communication Center received a call from a family member stating that three Las Vegas men were on a multi-day boating trip and hadn’t called in for the night.
The National Park Service located the men’s vehicle at Echo Bay, and began search operations at daybreak Feb. 21. A capsized vessel was found around 11:30 a.m. and was later confirmed to belong to the missing men.
A unified command was established, and additional search crews from the National Park Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called in for support.
One of the missing men was located by air around 2:30 p.m. a half mile north of the vessel. Medics on scene found him unresponsive. The Clark County Medical Examiner is en route.
The search for the remaining missing men continues. As of 4 p.m., the search team consisted of three National Park Service vessels with nine rangers, one Nevada Department of Wildlife vessel with three wardens, Metro air and the Metro Search and Rescue Dive Team.
