BOULDER CITY, Nevada - First Friday in downtown Las Vegas will be “out of this world" as park rangers from Lake Mead National Recreation Area teach kids about outer space at the KidsZone from 5 to 9 p.m. May 2.
At the free event, located at the corner of Casino Center Boulevard and California Avenue, kids can participate in hands-on projects such as “solar system in your pocket," shuttle drawings, galactic address postcards and planispheres. Kids can also meet a representative from NASA and see an actual astronaut flight suit and tile from a space shuttle.
A 30-foot space shuttle model will be on display near Charleston Boulevard from 5 to 11 p.m. Smokey Bear and Mojave Max will greet the kids throughout the event, as well. Rangers will share information about Lake Mead’s summer astronomy programs and the meteorites that have been found in the park.

May 3, Rangers will continue to educate kids about science at the Science Expo at Cashman Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free event will offer dozens of science and technology experiences and entertainment, including interactive exhibits from Lake Mead and the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership. Rangers from the National Park Service have been participating in the Las Vegas Science and Technology Festival all week with Clark County schools and other partners to help promote the next generation of scientists.
