"Come join us as we celebrate "Keeping Traditions Alive," says Shirley Torgerson, Executive Director of Capitol Reef Natural History Association. Events will be held a the Gifford House beginning at 9:00 am and running through 6:00 pm. There will be live music and cultural demonstrations on quilting and rug twinning. Learn about branding, sheep herding, and the process for smoking meat. Local historians will share stories from the past. A special history program will begin at 1:00 pm and an evening showing of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" will be held at the amphitheater at 8:00 pm. Watch out as you may see outlaws roaming the area! All events are free and open to the public.
Additional events to look forward to this year include: Harvest Homecoming on Saturday October 4, 2014 and the 2nd Annual Nature Holiday Songs on Saturday December 6, 2014. "Capitol Reef is a cultural gem as well as a geologic wonder. These events celebrate the rich history and tradition of the park," says Superintendent Leah McGinnis. "We look forward to seeing you in the park."
