Beach Hazards Statement Issued for Point Reyes National Seashore for May 13, 2014

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 13, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

A large, fast-moving northwest swell will enter the region Wednesday morning May 13 and build into the evening hours. This large, fast-moving swell will result in an increased threat for rip currents and sneaker waves along most of the beaches at Point Reyes National Seashore, especially, but not limited to, Point Reyes Beach North, Point Reyes Beach South, Kehoe Beach, and McClures Beach.

A beach hazard statement means the potentially dangerous conditions may exist on specific beaches. These hazards may include large shore break, strong rip currents, strong longshore currents, and possible sneaker waves. All of these conditions could be life threatening.

Be sure to always have your eyes on the ocean.
