Visitor Fatality at Desert View Campground in Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon, Ariz.- On Monday, June 9 at approximately 9:40 p.m. the National Park Service received a 911 call reporting an unconscious man at the Desert View Campground within Grand Canyon National Park.

Rangers were able to respond to the scene within minutes where CPR was already in progress by bystanders. Park medics and rangers used an automated external defibrillator, however all attempts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful.

The victim has been identified as 64 year old, Wolfgang-Hans-Joachim Glöde of Sievershagen, Germany. Mr. Glöde was on vacation with his wife at the time of the incident.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No additional information is available at this time.
