WETLANDS TRAIL TRAILHEAD CLOSURE EXTENDED TO OCT 31

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Portions of the Wetlands Trail in Lake Mead National Recreation Area will remain closed until Oct. 31 for the continued construction of a new grade control structure in the Lower Las Vegas Wash.

The trailhead and parking area on Northshore Road along with adjacent areas were closed to access, hiking and other recreational uses Feb. 10 and were expected to reopen June 30. Construction has been delayed four months because of newly discovered underlying rock formations.

The grade control structure will reduce erosion in the Las Vegas Wash to protect stability of the bridge. It will also reduce sedimentation transported from erosion in the wash into Lake Mead, as well as protect Lake Las Vegas Dam and outlet works.

The National Park Service regrets any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause.
