Flagstaff Area National Monuments Superintendent Releases Updated Compendium

FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA - Flagstaff Area National Monuments Superintendent Kayci Cook Collins announces the release of rules and regulations for Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments. "Each year we update the rules and regulations for the Flagstaff Area National Monuments," said Superintendent Collins. "The rules outline public closures and restrictions on certain activities, including what kinds of things require a permit."

The provisions in the Compendium of Designations, Closures, Use and Activity Restrictions, Permit Requirements and Other Regulations are focused on protecting public safety and preserving the natural and cultural resources that make the monuments unique, such as Walnut Canyon's cliff dwellings and forest/canyon ecosystem, Wupatki's impressive sandstone pueblos and vast grasslands, and Sunset Crater Volcano's cinder cones and lava flows. "Visitors are responsible for knowing the rules and restrictions for each unit of the National Park System," said Superintendent Collins, "In complying with the regulations, visitors help us take care of these irreplaceable treasures."
