Flagstaff Area National Monuments Celebrate the 98th Birthday of the
National Park Service
FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA -On Monday, August 25th, come out to the Flagstaff Area National Monuments to celebrate the 98th birthday of the National Park Service. Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano, and Wupatki National Monuments will be celebrating the Park Service's birthday. NPS sites throughout the country will waive entrance fees on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014.
The National Park Service was established on Aug. 25, 1916. The United States was the first country in the world to set aside its most significant places as national parks so that they could be enjoyed by all.Today, we care for 401 NPS units throughout the country -each one an important part of our collective identity. Some parks commemorate notable people and achievements, others conserve magnificent landscapes and natural wonders, and all provide a place to have fun and learn. All three Flagstaff Area National Monuments are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except December 25 when the monument is closed.
