DENALI PARK, Alaska: Fire Management staff at Denali National Park and Preserve are planning to burn two debris
piles, one at the Toklat Road Camp (Mile 53 on the Denali Park Road) and the other in Kantishna at approximately Mile 91 (near the confluence of Eureka and Moose Creeks). The planned ignition dates are between Monday, September 8 to
Friday, Oct. 3, weather permitting.
The material being burned is natural debris, i.e. trees and brush, from hazard fuel reduction (fire protection)
projects around buildings and along the road. These treatments are necessary to provide defensible space around structures, including historic cabins, and to minimize control issues during a wildland fire.
During burning, smoke may be visible in the area from the Denali Park Road and from aircraft.
The debris piles are located on gravel and rock beds not immediately adjacent to surrounding fuels. NPS Fire
Management staff will be monitoring the burning on site. The piles are expected to burn for two to three days.
