Welcoming Educators and Students November First to Memorial Day

SPRINGFIELD, MA: Springfield Armory NHS announces new days of operation Wednesday through Sunday November 1stthrough Memorial Day9:00AM -5:00 PM. Starting June 1st through October 31stthe Museum resumesa seven day a week operation from9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Tuesdays are designated "education day" and devoted to education programs and teacher professional development. Museum admission and school programs are free of charge.

Superintendent James Woolseystatesthat "We are happy to launch this new educational initiative. After careful consideration Springfield Armory NHS recognized that we could serve many more students in Springfield and surrounding towns if we had a day reserved for school groups and other educational offerings such as professional development workshops for teachers."

Education Coordinator/Park Ranger Jennifer Zazo-Brown looks forward to offering excellent curriculum based programs to greater numbers of students. In the 2013/2014 school year Springfield Armory NHS served 800 plus students and educators. With the new operationsschedulewe anticipate doubling the number of students served in the 2014/2015 year.

The Springfield Armory National Historic Site is the location of the nation's first armory (1794 -1968) and was established by George Washington. The site includes historic grounds, buildings, and the world's largest historic American military firearms collection. There is ample parking and the building is wheelchair accessible.
