THOUSAND OAKS, Calif - The National Park Service is seeking volunteers with an interest in helping young people discover beauty and history of the Santa Monica Mountains. The deadline to submit an application is October 31st.
"We work with thousands of students every year, and this would not be possible without the help of dedicated volunteers," said Mary Calvaresi, park ranger for Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. "Volunteers provide students with a positive experience in an outdoor setting while helping to reinforce lessons from the classroom."
The park is looking for volunteers who can commit one or two weekdays per month, beginning in November. The programs take place in Newbury Park, Malibu and Agoura Hills.
Although prior experience is not necessary, a strong desire to work with young people is required. The National Park Service will provide training. Volunteers will become an integral part of the environmental team that works outdoors with elementary, middle and high school students.
