"Come join us as we celebrate "Harvest Homecoming," says Shirley Torgerson, Executive Director of the Capitol Reef Natural History Association. Events will be held at the Gifford House beginning at 9:00 am and running through 6:00 pm. There will be live music and cultural demonstrations on quilting, tatting, and rug twinning. Learn about apple pressing and processing, pottery making, cowboy and sheep herding skill, and out pioneer heritage. Local historians will share stories from the past. A Fruita History Talk will begin at 2:00 pm, there will be a Fruita History Walk meeting in the picnic area at 4:00 pm, and the campground amphitheater evening program about the Historic Fruita Orchards will be at 7:30 pm. All events are free and open to the public.
Additional events to look forward to this year include the 2nd annual Nature Holiday Songs on Saturday, December 6, 2014. "Capitol Reef is a cultural gem, as well as a geologic wonder. These events celebrate the rich history and tradition of the park," says Superintendent Leah McGinnis. "We look forward to seeing you in the park."
