WASHINGTON - The National Park Service is pleased to announce the annual Frederick Douglass National Historic Site oratorical contest on Friday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. The contestants, students in first through twelfth grades, will present a portion of a Douglass speech from the stage of the visitor center at Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, and experience the same transformative power of language that Frederick Douglass experienced as a young man.
The oratorical contest will begin each day at 11 am and end at 1 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Public transportation is available via Metro to the Anacostia Station. Limited parking is available at the site. The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site is located at 1411 W Street Southeast, Washington D.C. in the Anacostia community.
Frederick Douglass National Historic Site preserves Cedar Hill, home of the famed abolitionist, Frederick Douglass. Born into slavery, Douglass escaped to spend his life fighting for justice and equality for all people. His tireless struggle, brilliant words and inclusive vision of humanity continue to inspire and sustain people today.
