Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is accepting applications for lifeguards this summer at West Beach. Deadline to apply is March 27, 2015. To apply go to the USA JOBS website at www.usajobs.gov. Using the search options on the website put in the location of Porter, Indiana and the position of Recreation Assistant. Participants are paid $11.98 an hour for the 40-hour work week during the summer. Weekend work in the spring and early fall is also available.
The lifeguards are stationed at the national lakeshore’s West Beach. In addition to standard lifeguarding work, duties include beach patrol to advise visitors of hazardous swimming conditions, search and rescue, minor first aid, and occasional operations support such as beach trash collection and assistance at park festivals. The position requires wearing a provided uniform and the operation of an all-terrain vehicle.
Applicants must possess valid American Red Cross or YMCA lifesaving, CPR/AED, and first aid certificates prior to starting work. Certifications must be maintained throughout the season.
