Blackwoods Campground Late Opening

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 22, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Due to record setting, heavy snow accumulation this winter, Blackwoods Campground will likely remain in Winter Operation mode through the month of April. Park crews will continue to evaluate the campground for access as the snow melts, but expect that the road will not open to vehicle traffic before April 20 and more likely not until May 1. Until such time that the road into the campground opens, Blackwoods will be accessible for primitive camping only, with portable toilets and water acquired by hand pump. Campers should check in with Dispatch at Park Headquarters to obtain a camping permit and be prepared to hike into the campground. In addition during this time there will be ongoing construction within the campground completing necessary repairs to the sewage system, which will involve the blasting of ledge and the use of heavy equipment throughout the day.
