New Visitor Center Park Film Premiere

New Visitor Center Park Film Premiere

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 23, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Lowell, Massachusetts- Lowell National Historical Park will debut its new film, Lowell: The Continuing Revolution on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Visitor Center Auditorium at 246 Market Street, Lowell. The film will be screened from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in conjunction with the First Thursday event in downtown Lowell.

The 17-minute film orients visitors to the unique history of Lowell, providing an introduction to the city’s creation and planning as an industrial city. The film highlights the city’s founders, its workers, its decline as an industrial center, and the creation of the National Park. Both the start and the end of the film emphasize Lowell as a diverse, vital, and modern city, connected to its past but always looking to the future. The film will pique visitors’ curiosity about Lowell, its culture and history, and will inspire visitors to explore and experience both the park and the city.

The new film will replace Lowell: An Industrial Revelation, the media program which has been shown to hundreds of thousands of park visitors since the Visitor Center opened in 1983. Following the premiere, the film will be screened every 30 minutes during regular hours of operation at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center, daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Work on the new film began in 2012. Lowell National Historical Park worked with Aperture Films, a company based in southern California. In addition to commercial work, Aperture has produced films for other National Park units including the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio, Fort McHenry National Monument in Baltimore, Maryland, and Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego, California. Working with Lowell National Historical Park staff and local historians, Aperture crafted a script and filmed live action scenes of the film in various locations in and around Lowell. Production staff were hired locally as were the principal actors and extras.

The Visitor Center is located at 246 Market Street, and free parking is available in the Visitor Center parking lot at 304 Dutton Street. Please call (978) 970-5000 for any questions.
