CHEYENNE, Okla.--Have you ever wondered how big our solar system is or how long it would take you to travel to Neptune? Join Washita Battlefield National Historic Site Park Rangers and Starcreek Astronomical Society on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. to get answers to these queries and dream up even more questions about our universe at the park's first night sky event of the summer.
Planets are strikingly small and the distances between them are astronomical. In order to better grasp the size and scale of our universe, participants will join in making a model of our own very small solar system. The "What if our sun were the size of a penny" activity will bring our planets down to size before we take our eyes to the stars as the sun sets. Members of the Starcreek Astronomical Society from Woodward, Okla., will be on hand with their telescopes, both big and small, to help visitors see into our solar system.
Dress appropriately for the weather, plan for a little bit of walking and bring a flashlight, preferably with a red film covering.
