On Sunday, June 21 and Sunday, June 28, Washita Battlefield National Historic Site continues the weekly Summer Lecture Series. Every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. a distinguished scholar or a Park Ranger will present on a multitude of topics in the Visitor Center. Light refreshments will be served after each presentation.
June 21 will feature 'Growing Up in the Grasslands' by Roger Mills County native and Park Guide Hallie Milner. Ms. Milner will include the history of the National Grassland, both nationwide and in Roger Mills County, but also the unique, personal experience of spending her youth studying conservation and agronomy on the Black Kettle National Grassland.
June 28 will highlight Park Guide Karena Minor's exploration of nocturnal animals and their behavior in 'The Night Life of Washita.' The plains of western Oklahoma can seem vast and still, but at night critters come alive. What are these animals? Why is it better for them to be up at night than during the day? Find out at the summer lecture series.
