Navigating the Night Sky

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 7, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

On Saturday, July 18, 2015, park rangers will discuss how Native American warriors, 7th Cavalry Soldiers and other cultures navigated at night before modern technology.Constellations, the moon, and even clocks all helped us find our way in the dark. Join us as we step outside and use telescopes, as well as the naked eye, to navigate the night sky.

Participants will learn how to arc to Arcturus and speed on to Spica. Students will have the opportunity to earn their Junior Ranger Night Explorer patch during the event.
