Candlelight Tours: August 8, 2015

"The End of the Frontier 1876-1881"

Watrous, NM: Fort Union National Monument announces its annual Candlelight Tours event on August 8, 2015. During this evening event visitors will be guided through the fort, and, through a series of skits performed by costumed interpreters, will discover the intimate and compelling stories of those that once lived and worked at the fort. This years' theme focuses on the years of 1876-1881 and how, during this pivotal five year time period, Fort Union brought permanent and life altering change to the American Southwest and beyond.Tour times are 7:30PM, 7:50PM, 8:15PM, 8:40PM, 9:00PM, and 9:20PM. "We invite all to travel back in time and discover Fort Union's intimate connection to the rich and vibrant history of New Mexico during this special evening program," said Superintendent Charles Strickfaden. "Truly, a night at Fort Union under the stars is an experience all should have."

This is a FREE event but each group is limited in size to 20 visitors per tour time. Reservations are required and will be taken beginning on July 15, 2015. To reserve a spot on a tour, please contact the Monument at (505)425-8025 x 0. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a light jacket. Flash photography is allowed only during the 7:30 PM tour.
